Founded in 1958, Information Center for Social Sciences of RUC is the first academic information publishing and service institution engaged in the collection, evaluation and editing of academic and research literature on humanities and social sciences in New China. Over the past 65 years, guided by the vision of "Academically oriented to serve teaching and research ", we have selected thousands of newspapers and periodicals, collected the most distinguished Chinese academic achievements, and are known as "the window of Chinese academics" and "the bridge of cultural exchanges between China and the world".
Information Center for Social Sciences mainly focuses on the publication of academic journals and professional journals. At present, 148 periodicals are officially published, including four series, which are photocopied periodicals, humanities and social sciences abstracts, newspapers and periodicals index, and original periodicals. Strictly following the evaluation criteria of academic results, the series of photocopying periodicals has become an academic brand with great influence in the field of humanities and social sciences in China.
Information Center for Social Sciences began the development of digital products and the strategy of digital transformation in 1994, and has successively developed six series of database products, including photocopying periodicals, thematic catalog index, Chinese newspapers and periodicals index, humanities and social sciences abstracts, thematic researches and digital periodicals. In 2011, the product of photocopying periodicals database was granted the second China Publishing Government Award. In 2017, "Scholar·Academic Ecosystem" was granted the fourth China Publishing Government Award.
Research Evaluation Centre for Humanities and Social Sciences of RUC adheres to the concept of "composite evaluation combining peer review and data analysis", actively carries out theoretical research and application promotion of academic evaluation, and regularly releases evaluation results such as the annual academic papers reprinted index ranking of photocopying periodicals, important reprinted source journals/institutions/authors, and the annual Top Ten academic hot spots in China. The photocopying periodicals based on academic evaluation criteria is regarded as one of the most objective, fair and influential academic evaluation criteria in the field of humanities and social sciences by the academic sphere and the periodical circle.
On April 25, 2022, when General Secretary Xi Jinping visited Renmin University of China, he inspected the photocopying periodicals edited and published by Information Center for Social Sciences, and instructed that "It is necessary to strengthen the construction of academic resource databases, improve the dissemination, collection, integration, editing, expansion and sharing of academic literature information, build a world-class academic resource information platform with Chinese characteristics, and enhance the soft power of national culture."
Information Center for Social Sciences is implementing the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping, striving to become a comprehensive, media-integrated modern professional academic publishing institution and academic information service institution integrating journal publishing, digital publishing, academic evaluation and think-tank services.
